Hanoi, January 12, 2010 - This morning, at Army Hotel, the Sub regional Sharing Meeting on Disaster Risk Reduction was held. ActionAid Vietnam as the host of the event has invited the international and national specialists, officers working in DRR field coming from the Mekong Sub-Region representing Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Lao DPR and Vietnam as the participants.
Ha Noi, 30 November 2009: Global price shocks, severe weather and epidemics have posed unexpected risks and shocks to poor people and their communities in Vietnam. The negative impacts could challenge the country’s impressive poverty reduction achievements of the previous years, a new report from ActionAid and Oxfam warns.
Hanoi, Nov 27th, 2009: The latest Report on Urban Poverty which was conducted by ActionAid Vietnam and Oxfam GB in July, 2009 released “the proportion of poor households nationwide is continuing to gradually fall with slowly decline”. However, in reality, the proportion of poor households in Hanoi and HCM cities increased unexpectedly in the middle of 2009 due to local governments’ implementation of an elevation of their own poverty lines.

Lap’s remark coincides with a report jointly conducted this year by Actionaid and the Centre for Co-operation in Human Resources Development, which found that 60 per cent of 1,590 migrant female workers continued to receive the same salary despite claims from the enterprises that they had raised salaries in the first six months of this year.
